So I have to admit something here that’s hard to tell people: I’ve never really liked Led Zeppelin. I know what you’re thinking. Whenever I’ve told people this, they’ve looked at me with a horrified look and asked me: “But why? They’re so good.”

Well yes, I know that they’re talented, but I’ve always had a bias against them. See, growing up in New York City, most of the people who loved Led Zeppelin were the same guys who were also big into bands like Ratt and Poison. They tended to be obnoxious and their music tastes left a lot to be desired. So even though I knew LZ to be different and much more talented than Ratt, Poison, Slayer and the rest of that ilk, I always associated them with those mulleted guys that I wanted as little as possible to do with.

Well, the other day, I had a big moment and sent this email to Dayna, who’s never really understood that line of reasoning:

I’m sitting here listening to Ramble On and I just realized that I have finally outgrown my dislike of Led Zeppelin. I’m past my impression of all the Lawnguyisland assholes loving them and realize that, in fact, yes, I do like Led Zeppelin.

Thought you should know.

To which she responded:

THANK GOD. Now listen to Tangerine and drink a beer. NOW damm it.

I did and she was right to tell me to do that. What a good day.

A couple of days later, we had this IM exchange about the situation:

(5:36:35 PM) Dayna: Ok, for your next task. Listen to Led Zepplin 1 all the way through. Think they were 19!. Think about the balls it took to start side two that way. “In teh days of my youth…” YEAH!

I’m still working on the last bit (not surprisingly, I don’t actually own Led Zeppelin 1) but will report back when I do. In the mean time, you can all rest easy that, as was the case with olives, my tastes have changed and I am now a fan. Leave any further Led Zeppelin suggestions in the comments.
